The government has started the Jan Aushadhi Kendra to provide medicines to the patients at affordable rates, but the patients are not getting all the benefits.

Due to the attitude of the doctors of the Sadar Hospital, the patients coming to the Sadar Hospital for treatment are not getting proper benefits of Jan Aushadhi Kendra. In this drug center, medicines are available to the patients at cheaper rates up to 50-90 percent. Only the brand name varies. In the outdoor service and indoor service of Sadar Hospital, most of the doctors are still writing branded medicines in lieu of composition of medicines not available in the hospital.

Therefore, patients are not getting the benefit of cheap medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendra. It is to be known that on an average more than 500 patients arrive for treatment in various outdoor services of Sadar Hospital and prescribe medicines outside medical treatment to most patients. But in the last five days, only 66 patients have reached the Jan Aushadhi Kendra for medicines, out of which half of the patients taking medicines were from outside. The medicine of calcium is being available at Jan Aushadhi Center for just Rs. 16,

What's the difference between generic and branded medicine: Generic medicine has no brand name and is known by the salt it is made of. For example, if the paracetamol salt used in pain and fever is sold with the same name, it will be called generic. At the same time, when it is launched in the market under the name of a brand (like Crossin), it is called the branded medicine of the company concerned. The question arises here why generic medicine is so much cheaper than branded medicine? The answer is that pharma companies spend a lot of money on patents and advertising of their branded medicines. At the same time, the government has direct intervention in fixing the price of generic medicines.

Jan Aushadhi Kendra may be replicated in Sadar Hospital: At present Jan Aushadhi Centers are operated in Sadar Hospital. If the apathy of the doctors persists and does not insist on writing generic medicines, then the condition of this Jan Aushadhi Kendras will also be similar to that of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra opened in Gulzar Pokhar, where the drug expiry of nearly two lakhs was not done due to non-sale of medicines and Finally the drug center had to be closed. It is known that medicines for fever, blood pressure, sugar are also available at Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Sadar Hospital.

Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Niranjan Kumar informed that all doctors will be directed to prescribe medicines of Jan Aushadhi Kendra. Even after this, if they do not prescribe generic medicines, then action will be taken by conducting an inquiry.
